Welcome to the 2021 Interstudio Music Festival!
The Interstudio Music Festival (brainchild of Mrs M. Greyvenstein and Mrs S. Breschi) was created to provide an encouraging, motivating platform for young (and not so young) beginners, to showcase their hard work and learn from each other, while gaining valuable experience in an eisteddfod environment.
The first IMF was conducted in 2015, with students from 3 studios participating in only 3 sections, Recital, Solo and Duet. It has grown to become the most popular annual festival for our local students, and the experience (as well as the gorgeous prizes) have generated much enthusiasm for music studies over the years.
Mrs G. Scott has been our annual adjudicator since then, and her cheerful, encouraging nature has been a blessing to all the students and teachers. Many have gone on to enter the bigger festivals with great success, partly due to their good training at the IMF.
In 2020, the Interstudio Music Festival took place the day before the announcement of the COVID-19 National Lockdown in South Africa. It was an emergency hybrid event, with most students entering via WhatsApp video, and a few coming to perform in person. At the time, many parents and teachers believed it would be better to postpone the IMF for a few months – how unwise that would have been, with the lockdown regulations still being in place, one year later!
Online music studies can be just as effective as in-person lessons, as we are sure you have noticed. Students from 5 local studios, coming from Westville, Chatsworth, Queensburgh, Pinetown, Kloof and Hillcrest, are participating in the 2021 Interstudio Music Festival. We hope you enjoy their performances.
